Ganderbal police arrest fraudster offering fake Amarnath Yatra facilitation
SONAMARG, June 04, 2026:Ganderbal police arrested a man for running a fraudulent scheme related to the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra route facilitation. The Sonamarg police station acted on credible intelligence indicating that a suspect was active in the Domail area, falsely impersonating a government employee deployed for the annual pilgrimage.
The accused has been identified as Mohd Ayob Jara, a resident of Androola, Poonch.Investigations revealed that the accused was deceiving visiting vendors and local service providers by claiming he could facilitate their access to the Holy Cave Shrine in exchange for money.
Through this fraudulent representation, he attempted to cheat unsuspecting individuals associated with the pilgrimage management. A formal case was registered under relevant legal provisions at the Sonamarg police station, leading to a successful operation where the suspect was apprehended.
Further investigation into the network and potential victims is currently underway.
