Rain and Hailstorm Warning Issued for Jammu and Kashmir
SRINAGAR June 02,2026 — The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a severe weather advisory forecasting a spell of rain and thundershowers across many places in the Kashmir division and a few areas of the Jammu division over the next three to five hours.
The nowcast indicates the likelihood of brief intense showers, thunderstorms, hailstorms, lightning, and gusty winds at isolated locations. Residents have been strongly advised to remain indoors during the thunderstorms and lightning, and to stay away from loose structures, electric wires, utility poles, and old trees to ensure their safety.
The weather office has also called for an immediate suspension of boating and shikara riding in Dal Lake and surrounding water bodies for the next two to three hours due to the turbulent conditions.
Additionally, there is a high possibility of hailstorms impacting several districts, including Shopian, Kulgam, Kupwara, Handwara, Baramulla, and parts of Ganderbal, Anantnag, and Budgam, within the next two to three hours.
