Dragon Fruit Farming Gains Momentum in Samba Villages
SAMBA, MAY 06: Dragon fruit cultivation is rapidly expanding across Samba district as local farmers increasingly utilize government support services to establish high-value orchards.
A team of officials led by Director Horticulture Jammu Gul Sayed recently conducted field assessments in the villages of Salmeri and Dhamore within the Vijaypur Zone to monitor the progress of these plantations.The visit included an inspection of a 6 Kanal dragon fruit orchard belonging to Neelum Gupta in Salmeri village, which is currently being developed under the HADP scheme.
The officials also reviewed a 4.5 Kanal farm owned by Ranjit Singh in Dhamore village. This particular farm was established through the Revised Modified High Density Plantation Scheme, highlighting the diverse financial and technical avenues available to growers in the region.
During the inspections, the team interacted with farmers to evaluate the ongoing activities and the health of the crops. Gul Sayed encouraged the growers to continue leveraging departmental resources, such as technical guidance and subsidies for quality planting materials.
These initiatives are designed to help farmers achieve higher yields and ensure sustainable management of their orchards as dragon fruit becomes a more prominent fixture in the local agricultural landscape.
