Sopore Police Book Six Under PSA for Disrupting Public Order
Sopore, April 24, 2026: In a decisive move to maintain regional stability, the Sopore Police have booked six individuals under the Public Safety Act (PSA) following their involvement in recent law and order disturbances.
The miscreants, identified as Umar Akbar Hajam, Salman Ahmed Shala, Altaf Ahmed Sheikh, Mubashir Ahmed Gilkar, Muzammil Mushtaq Changa, and Majid Firdous Dar, were reportedly linked to acts of vandalism and instigating unrest during a recent student protest.
Following the issuance of formal detention warrants by the District Magistrate, all six individuals have been shifted to the District Jail Bhadarwah. Authorities emphasized that these actions were necessary as the group’s activities posed a significant threat to public safety and the peaceful environment of the district.
The police department has reiterated a policy of zero tolerance toward any unlawful behavior that jeopardizes communal harmony. Investigations are currently ongoing to identify other participants involved in the incidents, with officials noting that more arrests and PSA detentions are likely to follow.
A stern warning was issued against any attempts to exploit sensitive situations or disrupt public order, making it clear that legal repercussions will be immediate. In light of these events, the police have advised the general public and youth to avoid falling prey to the influence of anti-social elements.
