General Zorawar Singh Symposium Highlights Legacy of India’s Strategic Military Brilliance

NEW DELHI | 12 April 2026 :- The Indian Army, in a prestigious collaboration with the Centre for Land Warfare Studies (CLAWS), hosted a landmark symposium at the Manekshaw Centre today to honor the enduring strategic legacy of General Zorawar Singh.

The event was headlined by the Chief of the Army Staff, General Upendra Dwivedi, who served as the Chief Guest for a gathering that united distinguished scholars, decorated veterans, and senior military leadership.

Central to the symposium was the unveiling of two significant literary works: “The Snow Lion: A Military Biography of General Zorawar Singh” by Lieutenant General Ghanshyam Singh Katoch (Retired) and “Lead like a Legend” by Brigadier Jeewan Singh Rajpurohit (Retired). These publications offer a deep dive into the General’s high-altitude conquests, portraying him not just as a conqueror, but as a visionary administrator and master logistician who laid the foundational spirit of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles Regiment.

The intellectual heart of the symposium featured a keynote address by Lieutenant General MP Singh, Colonel of the JAMMU & KASHMIR RIFLES and LADAKH SCOUTS, who expertly illustrated how General Zorawar’s 19th-century maneuvers remain the bedrock of modern mountain warfare doctrine.

This was followed by an engaging “Fire Side Chat” moderated by Lieutenant General Katoch, featuring eminent panelists Shiv Kunal Verma, Iqbal Chand Malhotra, and Colonel Ajay Raina (Retired). The discussion meticulously dissected the General’s operational art and his pivotal role as the architect of India’s northern frontiers.

By analyzing his mastery of the “Principles of War,” the symposium transcended a simple historical tribute, serving instead as a vital sanctuary for military thought and ensuring that General Zorawar Singh’s tactical genius continues to shape the strategic leaders of the future.
