Kulgam Police Dismantle Narcotics Syndicate: Five Arrested and Medical Store Sealed in Major Crackdown
KULGAM, April 10, 2026— In a significant breakthrough under the “War on Drugs” initiative, Kulgam Police have dismantled a sophisticated narcotics supply chain, resulting in the arrest of five peddlers and the exposure of critical cross-district linkages.
Under the strategic command of Senior Superintendent of Police Anayat Ali Choudhary, the operation shifted focus from routine arrests to tracing “backward linkages,” leading investigators to the Sirhama area of Anantnag where key suppliers were neutralized.
The crackdown began with tactical interceptions at the Furrah New Bypass and Akhran, where Danish Khurshid and Faruk Ali, a resident of Delhi, were apprehended with heroin, cannabis powder, and suspected drug proceeds.
Further leads led to the arrests of Abdul Qayoom Shah, Mohd Iqbal Rather, and Mukhtar Ahmad Wagay, with police recovering a bulk haul of over 1.2 kilograms of cannabis concealed in corn husks.
Beyond street-level enforcement, the authorities targeted the “pharma-terror” threat by collaborating with the Drug Control Department to inspect medical outlets in the Qaimoh area. This led to the immediate sealing of RH Medical Store for severe regulatory violations, including the failure to maintain mandatory records for Schedule H psychotropic drugs. SSP Choudhary reaffirmed a “zero tolerance” policy, warning that the systemic dismantling of these supply chains is a top priority to protect the region’s youth.
Several other establishments now face potential license suspensions as the police tighten oversight, urging the community to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement to permanently eradicate the drug menace from South Kashmir.
