Udhampur tax evasion penalty hits 12 lakh plus in GST enforcement operation
UDHAMPUR, MAY 18 — The Enforcement Wing of the State Tax Department in Udhampur has imposed and realized a penalty of 12.56 lakh rupees during a recent operation aimed at curbing tax evasion.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the enforcement team intercepted a vehicle transporting scrap without valid documents, which directly violated GST law provisions.
A detailed verification and inspection confirmed the violations, leading to the immediate recovery of the penalty amount.
The successful operation was executed by a team including Inspector Ravi Chander Sharma, SI Arif Murtaza, Sanjay Kumar, and guard Ajay Kumar, under the direct supervision of State Tax Officer Sahida Akhtar.
The drive was guided by Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Abbas Bhat and Assistant Commissioner Indu Jamwal, with overall supervision provided by Additional Commissioner Namrita Dogra and Commissioner P.K. Bhat.
This action highlights the department’s ongoing commitment to strengthening GST compliance and protecting government revenue through coordinated field operations.
Commissioner P.K. Bhat commended the enforcement team for their alertness, professionalism, and dedication during the operation. He stressed the importance of maintaining regular enforcement drives to deter tax evasion while simultaneously ensuring that the interests of honest taxpayers remain protected.
Following the operation, the State Tax Department issued an appeal to all taxpayers and transporters to strictly adhere to GST regulations and carry proper documentation during transit to avoid facing legal and financial penalties.
