Udhampur Housing Board Allegedly Scammed Residents Over Plot Allotments; Pawan Khajuria Demands Probe
UDHAMPUR, February 27, 2026 — During a high-profile press conference held at the Sailan Talab office in Udhampur on Friday, senior political leader Pawan Khajuria leveled explosive allegations against the Housing Board, accusing the body of systematically cheating citizens for over three decades.
Flanked by Councillor Neha Verma and a large group of concerned women leaders including Indu Devi and Renu Gupta, Khajuria detailed a pattern of betrayal where common people were misled under the guise of plot allotments. He revealed that the board first collected significant deposits from hopeful families nearly 30 years ago, only to leave them without land or clarity.
This cycle of alleged deception reportedly repeated in 2010, when the board again solicited funds from the same families under the promise of a transparent, time-bound process. Despite possessing official government receipts, these residents have seen neither the promised plots nor a refund of their hard-earned money.
The situation has escalated into a major local grievance, with Khajuria describing the board’s inaction as both a financial scandal and a deep emotional setback for elderly residents and young families whose futures were built on these housing promises.
Affected families reported that while officials have changed and files have stagnated, their dream of homeownership remains stalled by bureaucratic indifference.
In a stern call to action, Khajuria demanded an immediate high-level impartial investigation into the Housing Board’s operations.
He urged the government to fix accountability on the responsible officials and fast-track the allotment process for all eligible applicants. Emphasizing that housing is a fundamental right, Khajuria warned that such systemic failures severely undermine public trust in democratic institutions and called for a transparent mechanism to prevent future exploitation of the citizenry.
