UDHAMPUR, July 27 — The District Disaster Management Authority in Udhampur has issued a comprehensive weather advisory directing residents and emergency services to remain vigilant from July 28 to July 31, 2026.
Based on predictions from the India Meteorological Department, the region is expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, with peak intensity anticipated on July 30. The intense spells of rain and thunderstorms could trigger severe hazards including flash floods, landslides, mudslides, shooting stones, and waterlogging, posing risks to life, public infrastructure, and transportation systems across vulnerable and low-lying areas.
Travelers and commuters have been advised to avoid non-essential travel, particularly in hilly terrains and landslide-prone stretches such as the Jammu–Srinagar Highway (NH-44) and the Ramnagar–Basantgarh–Latti road. The risk of landslides and shooting stones is especially high in regions including Ramnagar, Chenani, Latti-Dudu, Panchari, Moungri, Basantgarh, and parts of Tehsil Majalta.
Authorities have emphasized that individuals using main highways and link roads should verify route statuses prior to departure and stay clear of local nallahs, streams, and the Tawi river catchment areas due to rising water levels.
Farmers and orchardists across the district are advised to suspend all field activities, including harvesting, spraying, and irrigation, between July 28 and July 31 to prevent crop damage and potential agricultural losses. In response to the alert, Additional Deputy Commissioner Prem Singh has instructed key operational departments—including PWD, PMGSY, PHE, PDD, Police, Health, SDRF, Agriculture, Horticulture, and RDD—to maintain high alert status with quick response teams ready.
