NEW DELHI, July 24 — The Supreme Court agreed to hear two petitions on July 27 regarding allegations of excessive police force against students protesting nationwide examination paper leaks.
Senior advocate Gopal Sankaranarayanan presented the matter before a Bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, confirming that formal petitions had been filed after receiving diary numbers. The Bench subsequently scheduled the hearing for Monday following the request.
The petitions urge judicial intervention over the handling of student demonstrations, particularly at Jantar Mantar and other locations across the country, where protesters demanded accountability for competitive exam irregularities and structural reforms.
Clarifying earlier reports, Justice Surya Kant noted that the Court had not previously refused to hear the matter, explaining that an earlier oral request for suo motu action was declined because no formal writ petition had been filed at that time.
