Shopian, July 25: Amid continuous heavy rains lashing Shopian district, the water level in several nallahs and streams has witnessed a significant rise, prompting Shopian Police to issue a public advisory urging residents to remain alert and exercise extreme caution.
As part of the precautionary measures, police officers and field personnel have been visiting several vulnerable areas across the district to assess the situation and spread awareness among the local population. Officials are personally interacting with residents, requesting them to stay away from fast-flowing nallahs, streams and other water bodies, as the strong currents pose a serious risk to life.
The police have strongly advised people not to venture near overflowing streams, avoid crossing flooded roads, bridges or culverts, and refrain from allowing children to play near water bodies. Residents living in low-lying and flood-prone areas have also been asked to remain vigilant and immediately report any emergency or untoward incident to the nearest police station or district authorities.
Shopian Police said the advisory has been issued purely as a precaution in view of the prevailing weather conditions and the continuous rise in water levels. The department is closely monitoring the situation on the ground and remains in constant coordination with the district administration and other emergency agencies to ensure timely assistance wherever required.
The police have appealed to the public to cooperate with the authorities, follow all safety advisories, avoid unnecessary movement near water bodies, and prioritise their safety until the weather improves and the water levels recede.
