Jammu, July 23 — The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), alongside Home Guards and Civil Defence volunteers, played a vital role in helping the Power Development Department (PDD) restore electricity across weather-affected areas in Jammu. Despite harsh weather conditions and strong river currents, SDRF personnel safely ferried PDD officers and technical crews across rivers to reach affected sites and carry out critical repairs. The river crossing operation was supervised by Commandant SDRF Jammu, Mohamad Aslam, IPS, in Rajouri, who commended the teams on the spot for their bravery and dedication.
In a separate weather-related incident, an SDRF team from the Battalion Headquarters in Jammu acted quickly to remove a large fallen tree blocking the National Highway near Manda, swiftly reopening the road to ensure safe traffic flow. Meanwhile, rising water levels in the River Chenab at Akhnoor prompted the proactive deployment of an SDRF team to Pragwal under the supervision of DySP Rohit Jamwal. The team remains stationed to monitor water levels, conduct public safety awareness, and stand ready for immediate emergency response. These coordinated efforts highlight the SDRF’s crucial role in supporting civil administration, maintaining public safety, and safeguarding essential services during extreme weather events.
