JAMMU, JULY 13, 2026 — In a major push to boost democratic engagement across Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Sanjeev Kumar Verma convened a high-level preparatory meeting today at Nirvachan Bhawan, Rail Head Complex. The session focused on finalizing logistical and administrative arrangements for an upcoming conference designed to strengthen the region’s electoral literacy framework. With a heavy emphasis on collaborative outreach, the meeting brought together senior administrative officials, District Election Officers, and representatives from the Higher Education, School Education, and Tourism departments, many of whom joined via video conferencing to synchronize their strategy.
Central to the discussion was the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) ongoing initiative to expand and fortify the network of Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs). CEO Sanjeev Verma highlighted that the upcoming Jammu conference will serve as a vital platform to familiarize stakeholders with the ECI Net digital ecosystem, while redefining the role of universities and schools in promoting democratic values. Rather than treating voter education as a periodic campaign, Verma emphasized transforming ELCs across schools, colleges, and polling stations into vibrant, permanent hubs for continuous civic learning. To maximize impact, the CEO directed district administrations and education heads to ensure robust participation from students, faculty, and ELC nodal officers, urging immediate venue finalization and seamless inter-departmental coordination to guarantee the event’s success.
