ANANTNAG, July 12, 2026: Following a severe cloudburst that triggered devastating flash floods in Pahalgam, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anantnag, Amod Ashok Nagpure, visited the hardest-hit Awoora Nallah area today to evaluate emergency operations and structural damage. The localized weather anomaly caused sudden torrents of water to sweep through the region, resulting in substantial destruction to residential houses, commercial buildings, and local infrastructure.
During his on-site assessment, Nagpure received detailed briefings from emergency responders and field officers regarding the immediate impact of the torrent and the ongoing safety hazards. He engaged directly with affected community members to address their immediate grievances and evaluate rescue and relief distribution. To ensure public safety and mitigate further risks, the SSP ordered law enforcement personnel to maintain an active, high-visibility presence in the flood-affected zones and seamlessly integrate their recovery efforts with the district administration and disaster response teams.
Recognizing the unpredictable nature of the weather conditions, Nagpure mandated the continuous monitoring of high-risk, vulnerable locations along the water channel. He instructed all subordinate officers to remain on high alert for immediate deployment should secondary emergent situations arise. Additionally, the police leadership issued a strong advisory to locals and tourists in the Pahalgam belt, urging them to stay away from unstable riverbanks, avoid prone mountainous paths, and strictly comply with the safety protocols issued by the administrative authorities.
