Machail Mata Yatra 2026 preparations reviewed by Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary

SRINAGAR, May 19, 2026:-Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired a high-level meeting to review the comprehensive arrangements being established by divisional and district administrations for the smooth, safe, and hassle-free conduct of the annual Machail Mata Yatra.

Scheduled to commence in August this year in the mountainous Kishtwar region, the pilgrimage preparations were assessed alongside top officials including the Additional Chief Secretary of PWD, Principal Secretary of Home, and the Director General of Fire and Emergency Services.

The review covered essential services such as sanitation, water supply, electricity, medical facilities, transport management, and emergency response protocols.Special emphasis was placed on implementing lessons learned from a disaster incident along the route last year.

The administration is introducing 100 percent online and RFID-based registration systems to ensure crowd management and real-time tracking of devotees.

To enhance safety against weather-related exigencies, automatic rain gauges and automatic weather stations are being installed for real-time alerts. Comprehensive standard operating procedures have been formulated to handle disaster mitigation, landslide management, and immediate response at vulnerable stretches along the pilgrimage path.

Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar reported that extensive lodging arrangements are being upgraded across multiple locations, including Kishtwar headquarters, Gulabgarh, Chishoti, and Machail.

The government is augmenting public and private accommodations, homestays, and tents, which includes setting up a dedicated tent city at Machail to handle the expected rush of pilgrims.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Pankaj Kumar Sharma detailed the traffic and transport management strategies designed to regulate vehicular movement, establish designated parking areas, and ensure swift restoration of road connectivity if needed.

The health department is setting up dedicated medical camps, ambulance services, first-aid centers, and emergency response teams at key points along the route. Adequate healthcare personnel and vital medicines will be deployed to address any health emergencies.

The Chief Secretary directed all line departments to maintain close coordination to ensure uninterrupted drinking water, electricity, communication services, and solid waste management, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to delivering a clean, secure, and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage.
