Machail Mata Temple Reopens For Annual Pilgrimage In Kishtwar

KISHTWAR, APRIL 14:- The sacred Shri Machail Mata Temple in the heart of the Machail Valley officially opened its doors to devotees today, marking the beginning of the highly anticipated 2026 pilgrimage season.

To celebrate the occasion of Baisakhi, the local community participated in a traditional ceremony where the idol of Goddess Durga was moved from the priest’s residence back to the main temple.

This religious procession drew a massive crowd of pilgrims and locals, setting a vibrant tone for the spiritual journey ahead. Senior officials, including Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar and IGP Jammu Zone Bhim Singh Tutti, were present to pay their respects at the shrine and ensure all protocols were in place for the influx of visitors.

Following the opening ceremony, the administration conducted a thorough review of the logistics required to keep the Yatra safe and organized.

Key focus areas include the mandatory use of RFID registration for all pilgrims, with dedicated counters set up at Gauri Shankar Mandir Sarkoot and Gulabgarh to manage the process efficiently.

Authorities made it clear that no traveler would be allowed to proceed without proper registration. The review also covered essential services such as round-the-clock electricity, reliable water supply, and the availability of medical facilities along the route to support the thousands of people expected to visit this year.

Environmental protection is a major priority for the 2026 season, with officials aiming for a completely plastic-free pilgrimage. Sanitation workers have been deployed specifically to manage waste, and strict rules regarding plastic disposal are being enforced to preserve the natural beauty of the valley.

Additionally, the administration is preparing for potential weather disruptions by securing emergency accommodation in local schools and colleges. Plans are also underway to start helicopter services once final permissions are granted, and work on a new Bailey Bridge at Chishoti is expected to be completed by the Border Roads Organization within two weeks to improve access for everyone involved.
