Kathua Blind Murder Case Solved: J&K Police Arrest Accused in Himachal Pradesh, Recover Weapon
KATHUA, JAMMU & KASHMIR — In a swift and decisive four-day operation, the Jammu and Kashmir Police in Kathua have successfully resolved a blind murder case, resulting in the arrest of the prime suspect and the recovery of the weapon used in the crime. The breakthrough came under the direct supervision of SSP Kathua, Ms. Mohita Sharma (IPS), following the tragic shooting of Roop Singh, a local contractor from Dhanna village, during the intervening night of May 15 and 16, 2026. Upon receiving the initial report, the Lakhanpur Police Station immediately registered an FIR under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Sections 3/25 of the Arms Act, prompting senior officials to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by DSP DAR Bhagwan Das Dandiya and SHO Lakhanpur Neeraj Chaudhary to meticulously analyze the crime scene and gather scientific and technical evidence.
Suspicion quickly turned toward a laborer named Sardar Singh, a resident of Tridwan, who vanished immediately after the incident without notifying his family. Intensive interrogation and preliminary investigations revealed that the motive stemmed from a financial dispute involving an outstanding payment of approximately ₹6,000 that the deceased owed to the accused. Driven by resentment, Sardar Singh allegedly took his father’s 12-bore gun, crept up to the victim’s house, and shot Roop Singh through a window while he was asleep. As police presence intensified the following morning, the suspect fled the region, triggering a massive multi-state manhunt involving continuous raids across Jammu and Kashmir and neighboring states.
The breakthrough finally occurred on the morning of May 19, 2026, at approximately 7:00 AM, when sustained investigative efforts and close coordination with the Himachal Pradesh Police led to the apprehension of the accused in Sansarpur Terrace, located in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh. Following his arrest, the suspect confessed to the crime and detailed the sequence of events, which subsequently led the police to recover the hidden 12-bore shotgun. The rapid resolution of this high-profile case within just four days highlights the professionalism and dedication of the Kathua Police, who are currently conducting further investigations to finalize the legal proceedings.
