ANANTNAG, JULY 22, 2026 — Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, conducted a surprise inspection of Government Medical College (GMC) and Associated Hospital in Anantnag today to evaluate the facility’s operational readiness amid persistent heavy rainfall across the region.
During her comprehensive walkthrough, the Minister inspected critical units—including the emergency ward, medical and surgical wards, diagnostic facilities, and trauma care services—to verify the availability of essential life-saving drugs, medical equipment, oxygen supplies, back-up power generators, and emergency ambulance fleets. Directly interacting with patients, attending staff, and medical personnel, she issued strict instructions to hospital administrators to enforce round-the-clock emergency responses, ensure strict sanitation standards, maintain effective drainage systems to prevent local waterlogging, and guarantee uninterrupted, high-quality patient care without weather-related delays.
Reaffirming the Jammu and Kashmir Government’s commitment to public health, Itoo emphasized seamless coordination with district administration and mandated that all health institutions across vulnerable zones remain on high alert throughout the ongoing wet spell.
