JAMMU, INDIA — July 13, 2026: In a major push toward urban sustainability, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), in collaboration with the Urban Forest Division, Jammu, organized a mega plantation drive today along the Sunjwan–Chowadi Road. Executed under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) and the broader ‘Green Jammu, Clean Jammu’ initiative, the drive saw the planting of over 2,000 saplings to transform previously unpaved land next to newly built footpaths into a vibrant, three-layer green corridor. The event was officially inaugurated by JMC Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav and witnessed enthusiastic participation from a diverse cross-section of society, including Mahant Shri Rameshwar Dass Ji of Shri Ram Mandir, Chamber of Commerce members, senior citizens, volunteers, Swachhata Champions, and civic officials, all of whom concluded the event with a pledge dedicated to environmental conservation.
During the gathering, Dr. Devansh Yadav announced an ambitious target to plant nearly 50,000 trees across Jammu during the ongoing monsoon season, a goal that will be supported by hosting two to three mega plantation drives every week. He emphasized that active public participation is vital for the survival of these saplings and highlighted an innovative tree adoption initiative where citizens can scan QR codes to adopt and care for specific plants. Looking forward, the Commissioner stated that the JMC plans to develop similar green corridors, walkways, and landscaped public spaces throughout the city to enhance urban biodiversity, improve air quality, and provide residents with cleaner, recreational environments. Key officials present at the event included Joint Commissioner (Health & Sanitation) Abdul Sattar, Divisional Forest Officer Ashwani Sharma, Health Officer Dr. Shahid Hussain, and Executive Engineer Yasir Bashir Kitchloo, among other senior dignitaries.
