SRINAGAR, July 13, 2026: The Meteorological (MET) Centre Srinagar has issued a fresh weather update for Jammu and Kashmir, forecasting a shift from hot and humid conditions to widespread rainfall and potential environmental hazards over the next week.
According to the advisory, the region will experience generally hot and humid weather from July 13 to July 17, with brief spells of rain or thundershowers at scattered places and isolated, brief intense showers specifically across the Jammu division. The weather pattern is expected to intensify between July 18 and July 19 as partly to generally cloudy skies bring light to moderate rain and thundershowers to many areas, alongside brief but intense heavy downpours in isolated pockets of the Jammu division.
A more severe weather system is projected to take hold from July 20 to July 22, bringing generally cloudy skies and multiple spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers to many places. This period carries an elevated risk of heavy rain and brief, intense heavy showers at isolated locations across both the Kashmir and Jammu divisions. Officials have warned of heavy rainfall and brief intense heavy showers particularly during the late night of July 18 into the morning of July 19, as well as during late afternoon and early morning hours between July 20 and July 22.
Consequent to these heavy downpours, a critical advisory has been issued warning of potential flash floods, landslides, and mudslides in vulnerable areas, with the Chenab Valley and Pir Panjal Range identified as high-risk zones during July 18–19 and July 20–22. Residents and travelers are strongly urged to stay away from nallas, streams, and all landslide or mudslide-prone areas to ensure public safety.
