Indian Army and Disaster Agencies Hold Joint Flood Management Symposium
LUCKNOW, June 6, 2026 — The Indian Army Surya Command, in coordination with the Uttar Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority, hosted a National Civil-Military Symposium on Flood and Flood Related Disaster Management at the Surya Auditorium in Lucknow ahead of the upcoming monsoon season.
The gathering focused on strengthening early warning systems and disaster response strategies under the theme of preparedness before monsoon and coordination before crisis.
The event brought together senior civil and military leadership alongside representatives from key national and state agencies, including the National Disaster Management Authority, the India Meteorological Department, the Central Water Commission, and the National Remote Sensing Centre.
Officials from the Indian Air Force, police, fire services, and railways attended alongside disaster management teams from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, and Madhya Pradesh to streamline integrated emergency response mechanisms across state borders.Uttar Pradesh Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh addressed the symposium, emphasizing the critical need for proactive preparedness, seamless inter-agency coordination, community resilience, and strong leadership during crisis management.
Central Command GOC-in-C Lieutenant General A Sengupta, Uttar Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority Vice Chairperson Lieutenant General Yogendra Dimri, and Bihar State Disaster Management Authority Vice Chairperson Uday Kant Misra were among the prominent leaders present at the sessions.
Discussions throughout the symposium targeted modern solutions for flood mitigation, focusing on satellite-based surveillance, climate change challenges, and the utilization of the Common Alerting Protocol alongside SACHET warning dissemination platforms.
The event concluded with a reinforced commitment to a comprehensive government and society approach toward disaster risk reduction, significantly strengthening civil-military coordination to ensure a disaster-ready response framework for India.
