Gulmarg Gondola Glitch: 300 Tourists Rescued After Cable Car Stranded Mid-Air

SRINAGAR, May 25 (2026) — A massive rescue operation was launched in north Kashmir on Monday after a technical snag abruptly halted the famous Gulmarg Gondola service, leaving nearly 300 tourists stranded mid-air.

The popular tourist attraction came to a sudden standstill due to an unexpected technical fault, trapping passengers—including women and children—inside the suspended cable cars. While eyewitnesses reported moments of panic among the trapped travelers, emergency response teams acted swiftly.

A coordinated rescue force comprising personnel from the Indian Army ,the Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the local civil administration rushed to the site to initiate evacuation efforts.

The high-stakes operation was supervised directly on-site by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate and the Tehsildar of Tangmarg. Local authorities assured the public that the situation remained fully under control and that the evacuation process was executed smoothly. Concurrently, technical teams were deployed to troubleshoot the mechanical failure and safely restore the gondola service.
