SRINAGAR, JULY 13, 2026: In a major boost to the healthcare and medical education sector in Jammu and Kashmir, the National Medical Commission (NMC) has officially approved an increase of 50 MBBS seats at the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for the upcoming Academic Year (A.Y.) 2026-27.
The Health and Medical Education Department announced today that the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) of the NMC issued the formal Letter of Permission (LoP), effectively raising GMC Jammu’s annual intake capacity from 200 to 250 seats. This decision closely follows a similar milestone on July 10, 2026, when GMC Srinagar was also granted 50 additional MBBS seats, bringing its total capacity to 250 as well.
Expressing deep satisfaction with these consecutive approvals, the Health and Medical Education Department emphasized that this expansion underscores the government’s steadfast commitment to upgrading regional medical infrastructure, enhancing healthcare human resources, and creating more opportunities for local youth to pursue medical careers right within the Union Territory.
