Fuel prices hiked for second time in a week across major Indian cities
NEW DELHI May 19,2026— Fuel prices across India were raised by approximately 90 paise per litre on Tuesday, marking the second price hike within a week. The latest increase follows a substantial three-rupee hike per litre implemented last Friday, compounding the financial pressure on consumers.
In the national capital, petrol prices climbed to 98.64 rupees per litre from the previous 97.77 rupees, while diesel rates rose to 91.58 rupees per litre from 90.67 rupees.Metropolitan cities across the country witnessed corresponding upward revisions in fuel rates.
In Mumbai, petrol jumped to 107.59 rupees per litre and diesel reached 94.08 rupees per litre. Kolkata registered the sharpest increase for petrol at 96 paise, bringing the cost to 109.70 rupees per litre, while its diesel rate settled at 96.07 rupees per litre.
Meanwhile, Chennai saw petrol prices rise to 104.49 rupees per litre and diesel prices climb to 96.11 rupees per litre, reflecting a nationwide upward trend in petroleum pricing.
