Expanded 20 Coach Vande Bharat Express Flagged Off to Boost Jammu and Kashmir Connectivity
JAMMU, April 30, 2026:- Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister Jitendra Singh, and Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah officially flagged off the newly augmented Srinagar–SMVD Katra Vande Bharat Express at the Jammu Railway Station today.
The service, which has been extended to Jammu Tawi, now features an increased capacity of 20 coaches, up from the previous eight-coach configuration. This expansion is designed to meet the rising demand for modern, high-speed rail travel while significantly enhancing passenger capacity and comfort for those traveling across the Union Territory.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah highlighted the launch as a transformative milestone in the region’s development, noting that the express service provides essential all-weather connectivity between the Jammu division and the Kashmir Valley. He emphasized that the improved rail link would serve as a major catalyst for economic growth, tourism, and overall mobility.
The presence of several Members of Parliament, Members of the Legislative Assembly, and senior officials from the Northern Railways and the Jammu and Kashmir government underscored the strategic importance of this infrastructure upgrade.The initiative reflects a sustained government commitment to modernizing the transport landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.
By integrating more coaches and extending the route, the railway authorities aim to provide a seamless travel experience that caters to both daily commuters and pilgrims visiting the holy shrine in Katra.
Following the ceremony, the dignitaries noted that the enhanced Vande Bharat service represents the beginning of a new phase in regional integration, ensuring that the valley remains accessible and connected to the rest of the country throughout the year.
