RAJOURI, JULY 23 — Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary today chaired a comprehensive high-level review meeting in Nowshera to evaluate ongoing emergency response efforts and infrastructure restoration following recent devastating flash floods. During the meeting, he directed department heads to expedite the recovery of essential public utilities—including roads, electricity, and drinking water systems—while demanding an exhaustive assessment of property and infrastructural losses to ensure immediate relief distribution to affected families.
Focusing on sustainable disaster prevention, the Deputy Chief Minister instructed the Irrigation and Flood Control Department to formulate and submit a detailed flood mitigation strategy within five days. Emphasizing scientific planning and long-term resilience, Choudhary called for immediate repair alongside permanent structural safeguards to protect vulnerable zones against future inundations. He urged inter-departmental synergy and seamless coordination to guarantee that government aid reaches every impacted household without administrative delays.
Earlier in the session, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Nowshera) Dr. Pritam Lal Thapa briefed leadership on the extensive damage across the region, detailing losses to private homes, standing crops, livestock, dug wells, healthcare facilities, and public infrastructure managed under the Jal Shakti, Agriculture, and PMGSY departments. ADC Thapa confirmed that emergency supplies, including dry rations, have already been dispatched to affected residents. Commending the district administration and line department officials for their swift response under challenging conditions, Choudhary reiterated the government’s commitment to full rehabilitation and the rapid restoration of normalcy across Nowshera.
