Director Agriculture Kashmir inaugurates summer flower seedling distribution drive in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, May 18, 2026 :- Director Agriculture Kashmir, Sartaj Ahmad Shah, inaugurated the distribution of flower seedlings at the Floriculture Nursery in Lalmandi.

The initiative aims to promote ornamental gardening and encourage commercial floriculture activities among regional growers and gardening enthusiasts across the valley.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Director emphasized that floriculture serves as a viable sector for income generation, aesthetic beautification, and environmental sustainability, reaffirming the department’s commitment to providing quality planting material and essential technical support to farmers, youth, and urban gardeners.

To enhance the region’s floriculture sector, the department has made a wide variety of quality planting materials available at government-approved and subsidized rates.

The inventory includes hybrid and open-pollinated annual seedlings, imported potted plants, and rooted plants in polybags designed to ensure easy public access during the summer season.

The Director noted that the timely distribution program is geared toward promoting aesthetic landscaping in residential areas, public parks, and institutions, while urging local growers to adopt modern floriculture practices to maximize productivity and commercial scale.

The launch event was attended by the Deputy Director of Agriculture for Central Kashmir, the Floriculturist of Kashmir, and several senior officials from the Floriculture Wing.
