Delhi Customs seizes hydroponic weed worth 48 crore from passengers arriving from Bangkok
NEW DELHI, May 23, 2026 :- Customs officers at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi intercepted two Thailand nationals arriving from Bangkok on Air India flight AI-2356 after they had crossed the Customs Green Channel.
Acting on specific profiling inputs and suspicious travel indicators, the Air Intelligence Unit officers subjected the baggage of both passengers to a detailed examination.
A thorough physical inspection of the luggage resulted in the recovery of six vacuum-sealed packets containing hydroponic weed, also known as ganja. Four packets weighing approximately 29 kilograms were found in the baggage of one passenger, while the remaining two packets weighing approximately 19 kilograms were recovered from the second passenger, bringing the total net weight of the seized narcotic substance to 47.805 kilograms.
The market value of the recovered contraband is estimated to be approximately 48 crore rupees, marking this as one of the highest individual drug seizures at the Delhi airport in recent times. Further investigation into the smuggling attempt is currently underway.
