RAJOURI, JULY 21: Deputy Commissioner Rajouri Abhishek Sharma addressed a press conference today to detail the damage caused by recent flash floods and outline the ongoing relief, rescue, and rehabilitation efforts across the district. Expressing deep condolences to the bereaved families, DC Sharma assured that the administration stands firmly with the victims, confirming that immediate admissible relief has already been disbursed and further assistance will be extended continuously.
A joint multi-agency operation—comprising the SDRF, NDRF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, Indian Army, and local authorities—has successfully rescued nearly 230 people from flood-hit regions. Out of four initially reported missing individuals, three bodies have been recovered, while search operations remain active for the remaining person. Around 450 evacuated residents are currently housed in temporary relief shelters, where the administration is supplying essentials, including meals, safe drinking water, bedding, and medical care.
To prevent further casualties, the Deputy Commissioner urged the public to strictly observe weather advisories, stay clear of rivers, streams, and low-lying zones, and ensure children remain away from flood-prone areas. Infrastructure repair for roads, power grids, and water supply systems is currently underway on a war footing. A comprehensive damage assessment of both private property and public infrastructure will be conducted to distribute additional aid as per official norms. Citizens requiring urgent help can reach the District Control Room at 01962-295895.
