CBI arrests government junior assistant in Jammu for taking bribe via QR code

JAMMU, May 25, 2026 :- The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested a junior assistant working in the office of the Superintending Engineer, PHE Mechanical Urban Circle, Narwal, Jammu in a bribery case.

The investigation agency registered the case against the accused following a formal complaint alleging that the official demanded a bribe of 4,500 rupees from the complainant. The illicit payment was reportedly demanded to process and clear the pension case of the complainant.

According to official , the accused shared a QR code through WhatsApp to receive the alleged bribe amount. Upon receiving the complaint, the investigative agency laid a strategic trap and caught the accused official in the act of receiving the bribe money from the complainant through the digital payment code.

Following the successful trap operation, the junior assistant was formally arrested, and officials confirmed that a further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
