Budgam Police Issues Advisory Against Sharing Identity of Minor Crime Victim

BUDGAM, May 24, 2026 — The Budgam Police has issued a strict advisory urging the general public and media houses to immediately stop circulating the photographs and identifying details of a minor girl who is a victim in a recent case. Authorities noticed that several individuals have been posting these sensitive particulars across various social media platforms.

Police warned that such actions are entirely unlawful, carry the risk of spreading widespread misinformation, and have the dangerous potential to trigger public unrest and disrupt communal harmony.The disclosure of a minor victim’s identity is strictly prohibited under Indian law, and the police have made it clear that anyone found sharing the victim’s name, pictures, or unverified rumors will face stringent legal consequences.

Budgam Police Station has already registered an official case under Sections 137(1) and 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and a detailed investigation is currently underway under the direct supervision of the Deputy Superintendent of Police Headquarters in Budgam.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police is actively monitoring online spaces for any violations and has appealed to citizens to cooperate with the investigating agencies by acting responsibly and refraining from sharing misleading digital content.
