AKHNOOR, JULY 21, 2026 — Border Security Force (BSF) personnel deployed along the International Border in the Akhnoor sector intercepted and detained a 53-year-old Pakistani national attempting to cross into Indian territory during the intervening night of July 20 and 21.
Alert troops of the 134 Battalion BSF stationed at Border Outpost (BOP) Malabela, under the jurisdiction of the Pargwal Police Post, detected suspicious movement along the border fence. Despite repeated challenges and warnings from the sentry to halt, the individual continued to advance toward the boundary line before being swiftly overpowered and taken into custody by border guards.
During preliminary interrogation, the individual identified himself as Mohammad Rafiq, alias Kala, a resident of Pindi village in Pakistan. Rafiq claimed he was traveling between the Pakistani villages of Looni and Jung to visit his married sister when he breached the border. Security personnel recovered a Pakistani National Identity Card, personal effects, a wallet, and assorted snacks and tobacco products from his possession.
The suspect remains in BSF custody at BOP Malabela while security agencies conduct joint interrogations to verify his claims and ascertain the precise motives behind the border crossing.
