SRINAGAR, JULY 22: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired a high-level meeting to review the implementation strategy for the Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojana, a central initiative aimed at developing next-generation plug-and-play industrial parks to position Jammu and Kashmir as a preferred investment destination.
The meeting, attended by senior officials including Commissioner Secretary of Industries and Commerce Vikramjit Singh and Managing Director of SIDCO Mohammad Shahid Saleem, focused on detailed project reports for proposed industrial parks at Pekhari in Samba district and Nowgam in Srinagar.
Highlighting the need for technical robustness, the chief secretary directed the Power Development Department and Public Works Department to vet the proposals thoroughly to ensure engineering soundness before submitting them for central approval ahead of the July 31 deadline.
The meeting reviewed land identification, legal transfer processes, and the institutional framework, including the creation of Special Purpose Vehicles for project execution and long-term management. Officials revealed that the Pekhari project in Samba will cover nearly 84 acres at an estimated cost of over 211 crore rupees to support MSMEs, light engineering, and logistics, while the 50-acre Nowgam site in Srinagar, costing over 104 crore rupees, will focus on food processing, horticulture, and digital services.
Offering ready-to-use infrastructure such as power distribution, water treatment, digital connectivity, and worker amenities, these planned industrial hubs aim to streamline operations for investors, leveraging central financial assistance available under the scheme.
