Amritsar police dismantle drug and illegal arms smuggling module with major arrest

AMRITSAR May 18,2026 — The Amritsar Commissionerate Police achieved a major breakthrough by dismantling a drug and illegal weapons smuggling module, resulting in the arrest of one suspect.

During the operation, law enforcement officials successfully recovered 2.1 kilograms of heroin along with seven sophisticated pistols from the possession of the accused.

A preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested individual was in direct contact with a foreign-based smuggler through virtual phone numbers. The suspect was actively receiving consignments of narcotics and weapons intended for further distribution across various parts of Punjab.

A formal case has been registered at the C-Division Police Station in Amritsar, and further investigations are underway to establish the forward and backward linkages of the criminal network and to identify other associates involved.

State law enforcement remains firmly committed to a zero-tolerance policy against drugs, illegal arms, and organized crime.
