Ahmedabad leads nationwide Fit India Sunday cycle rally to celebrate Commonwealth Games Day

AHMEDABAD, May 24: The 75th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle witnessed massive participation across more than 8,000 locations nationwide, marking Commonwealth Games Day and building momentum toward the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad.

Leading the national celebrations from the Sabarmati Riverfront, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi, and actor Ayushmann Khurrana joined 5,000 cyclists, athletes, and fitness enthusiasts in a vibrant showcase of community participation.

The Ahmedabad edition, themed “A New Icon for a Fitter India – Pedalling to 2030,” featured a five-kilometer cycling rally alongside yoga and zumba demonstrations, turning the riverfront into a festival of fitness and culture.

A major highlight of the event was the inauguration of a special Commonwealth Games-themed exhibition by Mandaviya, which showcased India’s sporting achievements and the expanding sports infrastructure under the Khelo India Mission.

The event featured an array of engaging community activities, including pickleball, box cricket, volleyball, and tug of war. Prominent sports leaders and former Commonwealth Games medallists, including Gagan Narang, Gurjit Kaur, Rajani Etimarpu, Sonika Tandi, Anjum Moudgil, Ankur Mittal, and Trupti Murgunde, attended the event to inspire young participants.

A cultural segment blending traditional Garba with the science of Yoga was also presented by artist Anish Rangrej, while Pawan Kumar from the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga provided wellness consultations.Speaking on the occasion, Mansukh Mandaviya highlighted that cycling is a powerful movement that keeps citizens fit, reduces pollution, and conserves fuel. He emphasized that a fit society is essential to building a prosperous nation and achieving the vision of a developed India.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghvi expressed delight at the overwhelming response from the people of Gujarat, noting that the massive turnout reflects a growing enthusiasm for sports and underscores the state’s readiness to host major international events.

Actor Ayushmann Khurrana praised the collaboration between the Fit India Movement and the upcoming 2030 games, stating that such grassroots initiatives are vital for shaping the discipline and aspirations of future Indian athletes.Similar celebrations unfolded simultaneously across the country at various sports centers and public venues.

Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Nikhil Khadse led the drive in Guwahati, former wrestling star Babita Phogat participated in Dharamsala, and former Indian hockey player Saba Anjum joined the festivities in Mumbai.

Launched in December 2024 under the Fit India Movement, the Sundays on Cycle initiative has grown into one of the country’s largest community-driven fitness programs. Organized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports alongside the Cycling Federation of India and other partners, the campaign continues to advance the national health agenda as Ahmedabad prepares for the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
