KOCHI, June 24, 2026 — National Cadet Corps cadets and local students visited specialized hydrographic survey ships stationed at the Southern Naval Command to mark World Hydrography Day 2026.
The educational visit offered the young participants a first-hand look at the marine science and technical operations required to maintain safe seas and secure navigation routes.
Naval experts guided the visitors through the various compartments of the vessels, explaining how underwater mapping directly impacts maritime safety and national trade development.
During the interactive sessions, the students and cadets observed cutting-edge survey systems, sonar technology, and digital charting equipment in real-time operation. Naval instructors demonstrated how hydrographers collect data from the ocean floor to produce accurate nautical charts used by international shipping vessels and defense forces.
Maritime officials stated that hosting these interactive tours helps raise awareness about the vital role of oceanography in coastal security and inspires the youth to consider future careers in naval sciences.
