Central Government Fully Committed to J&K Statehood but Won’t Compromise on Security Says LOP J&K
Srinagar, June 17: The restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood remains an absolute guarantee from the central government, but the final transition hinges entirely on achieving permanent security on the ground. Highlighting this condition during a press interaction in Srinagar on Wednesday, Sunil Sharma, the Leader of the Opposition in the J&K Assembly, explained that New Delhi refuses to rush the process until violence and public lawlessness are entirely eradicated in favor of lasting regional stability.
Beyond security matters, the senior BJP leader launched a scathing critique against the ruling National Conference-led coalition, describing it as a fragile and deeply conflicted alliance that lacks the unity required to govern effectively. Sharma predicted that the current administration is bound to implode under the weight of its own internal friction, explicitly stating that the BJP has no desire to intervene or orchestrate a government takeover. He further admonished Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for delivering “irresponsible” public statements, urging him to exhibit better leadership while claiming that a recent closed-door meeting of NC legislators in Dachigam exposed severe panic regarding the party’s fracturing support base.
