Srinagar MET department issues weather alert for rain and thunderstorms across Jammu and Kashmir till June 22

SRINAGAR, June 17, 2026 — The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a fresh weather alert forecasting unstable conditions across Jammu and Kashmir, with rain, thunderstorms, hail, and gusty winds expected in several locations over the next five days.

Regional weather patterns are predicted to bring generally cloudy skies alongside intermittent spells of light rain and brief, intense showers. Officials have warned that short-duration heavy rainfall could potentially trigger flash floods, mudslides, and landslides in vulnerable hilly and low-lying areas.

In response to these potential risks, authorities have issued an advisory urging residents to stay away from weak structures, old trees, and electric poles during storms.

Additionally, farmers have been advised to schedule crop spraying during early morning hours, while the public has been directed to suspend boating and outdoor activities until weather conditions stabilize.
