Jammu and Kashmir Weather Alert Predicts Heavy Rain and Hailstorms Across Multiple Districts

SRINAGAR, June 16, 2026 — The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued an urgent weather nowcast predicting a spell of rain and thundershowers across several parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

Over the next three to five hours, brief intense showers, thunderstorms, hailstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected in areas including Baramulla, Uri, Gulmarg, Badgam, Poonch, Rajouri, Shopian, Kulgam, and Anantnag. Similar weather conditions will affect Ganderbal, the Sonamarg-Baltal-Holy Cave axis, the Pahalgam-Holy Cave axis, as well as parts of Ramban, Kishtwar, Reasi, Kathua, and Jammu.

In light of these conditions, authorities have issued a safety advisory urging residents to stay indoors during thunderstorms and lightning, and to remain clear of loose structures, electric wires, utility poles, and old trees.

Furthermore, all boating activities and Shikara riding across regional water bodies, including Dal Lake, must be suspended for the next three hours. A specific warning has also been highlighted for Uri, Baramulla, Gulmarg, Badgam, Poonch, and Rajouri district, where hailstorms with intense showers are highly likely over the next two to three hours.
