Amit Sharma reviews Census 2027 operations in Anantnag district
ANANTNAG, June 15, 2026 :- Chief Principal Census Officer and Director Census Operations for Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, Amit Sharma, alongside Deputy Director General from the Ministry of Home Affairs Office of Registrar General of India, Biswajit Das, chaired a comprehensive review meeting at the Conference Hall in Anantnag today.
The high-level meeting was organized to assess the ongoing progress of the House Listing Operations being conducted under Census 2027 in the district. The session was attended by Principal Census Officer and Deputy Commissioner Anantnag, Bilal Mohuddin Bhat, Joint Director Arun Kumar, Assistant Director Vijay Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Vikas Ahlawat, and various other administrative and charge officers associated with the national exercise.
During his presidential address, Chief Principal Census Officer Amit Sharma described census data as the founding pillars for future development and prosperity across both the Kashmir valley and the entire nation.
While praising the overall preparedness of the Anantnag district administration, he emphasized that the census represents the country’s largest administrative and statistical exercise, which forms the basis for policy planning, resource allocation, and socio-economic development. He stressed the critical importance of maintaining strict accuracy during data collection, directing enumerators and supervisors to thoroughly verify every entry to avoid minor errors or conceptual misunderstandings that could adversely impact future policy planning.
The administrative heads directed all charge officers to ensure that supervisors undertake regular field inspections and conduct random quality checks to maintain strict adherence to official guidelines. Given the unique geography of Anantnag, special emphasis was placed on the comprehensive coverage of migratory and seasonal populations, forest areas, and other special categories to guarantee that no household or individual is left out.
Deputy Director General Biswajit Das held a direct interaction session with the present enumerators and supervisors to gather firsthand feedback, which will be utilized to improve the technology-based population enumeration phase scheduled for the coming months of September 2026 and February 2027.
Principal Census Officer Bilal Mohuddin Bhat assured full administrative backing for the smooth conduct of the operations and ordered all concerned officials to monitor field activities closely to meet established timelines.
Providing an operational update, the Additional Deputy Commissioner briefed the chair that all House Listing Blocks have been successfully created and demarcated on the management portal, with field work progressing smoothly. He also detailed the training modules completed for field staff, self-enumeration progress, and local awareness campaigns.
Concluding the review, Chief Principal Census Officer Amit Sharma highlighted how digital data collection modes will enhance efficiency, and he later appealed to the public of Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Anantnag to fully cooperate with enumerators to ensure informed governance and equitable resource distribution.
