Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney Welcomes United States and Iran Breakthrough Agreement

OTTAWA, June 15, 2026 – Prime Minister Mark Carney welcomed the new agreement reached between the United States and Iran, expressing Canada’s gratitude to regional partners for their indispensable roles in facilitating the negotiations.

Carney emphasized Canada’s clear stance that a durable ceasefire must simultaneously ensure safe, unimpeded transit through the Strait of Hormuz and address the pervasive threat of Iran’s nuclear program.

As discussions continue, the Canadian government urged all involved parties to maintain a good faith dialogue and completely refrain from further escalation.

Carney added that Canada remains in close contact with its international partners and stands ready to actively support diplomatic efforts to bring stability and lasting peace to the region, explicitly including stabilizing efforts in Lebanon.
