Shopian Market Inspection: Food Safety Team Penalizes Erring Vendors for Violating Norms
SHOPIAN, JUNE 10 — In an intensification of its ongoing efforts to ensure food safety and safeguard consumer health, the Food Safety Team Shopian executed a comprehensive market inspection drive across the primary commercial zones of Shopian town.
The enforcement drive targeted an array of retail shops, grocery outlets, and fruit vendors to evaluate compliance parameters under the Food Safety and Standards Act.
Officials meticulously scrutinized the overall quality, storage protocols, packaging integrity, labeling precision, and expiry dates of food products offered to the public, aiming to eradicate the distribution of substandard or misbranded items while educating food business operators.
During the field operation, several regulatory violations were detected, resulting in an on-the-spot fine of ₹3,000 imposed and realized from erring vendors under Section 69.
Alongside penal actions, the team actively sensitized local shopkeepers on maintaining stringent hygiene standards and safe storage practices, warning that checking drives will continue across the district and appealing to consumers to remain vigilant and report any public health deviations to authorities.
