Operation Sadbhavana:- Indian Army reopens seasonal Bakarwal school for migratory children in Drass

DRASS, June 9, 2026 — Under Operation Sadbhavana, the Indian Army has reopened the Seasonal Bakarwal School at Mugalpura for the summer months to provide continuous educational support to the children of the nomadic Bakarwal community.

The temporary educational facility ensures that the youth from these migratory communities do not experience gaps in their schooling during their annual seasonal migration to the high-altitude alpine pastures near Drass.

The school welcomed 30 students on its opening day, with two dedicated teachers commencing regular classes in the presence of enthusiastic parents and local community members.

This community initiative aims to provide a stable, structured, and conducive learning environment for nomadic youth, ensuring every child receives access to education and growth opportunities despite their highly mobile lifestyle.
