Indian Coast Guard coordinates rescue of 24 Indian crew members after missile attack on tanker off Oman

MUMBAI, JUNE 9, 2026 :- The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mumbai coordinated a successful rescue operation following a missile attack on the merchant vessel MT Marivex within the Oman Search and Rescue Region. Upon receiving information about the attack, the Mumbai centre immediately established communication with the Oman Maritime Security Centre to initiate emergency protocols.

The joint coordination ensured the safe evacuation of 24 Indian crew members who were on board the targeted tanker. The Oman Navy deployed helicopters to the scene to safely extract the seafarers from the vessel.

The Indian Coast Guard reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the lives of Indian mariners across the Indian Ocean through close cooperation with littoral states.

Officials emphasized that international collaboration with friendly foreign nations remains a primary focus for the agency to maintain prompt and effective search and rescue capabilities throughout the Indo-Pacific region.
