DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma leads high level joint security review meeting for Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026
UDHAMPUR, June 1 — Shiv Kumar Sharma, Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Udhampur-Reasi Range, conducted a comprehensive joint security review and coordination meeting at the Range Police Headquarters in Udhampur to finalize arrangements for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026.
The high-level meeting was attended by Amritpal Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police Udhampur; Manoj Kumar, Commanding Officer of the 187th Battalion CRPF; Lieutenant Colonel Rajesh Balyan from Headquarters 71 Sub-Area; Anuj Kumar Singh, Project Director of NHAI Udhampur; Major Milan from Army Intelligence; Bikramjit, Deputy Commanding Officer of NDRF; Sudhir Kumar, Deputy Commanding Officer of the 137th CRPF; Sunil Kumar, Deputy Commanding Officer of BSF STC Udhampur; Ramesh Kumar Singh, Deputy Commanding Officer (G) AHFGT BSF; R.L. Meena, Deputy Commanding Officer of the 137th Battalion CRPF; Jaswinder Singh, Deputy Commanding Officer of the 187th Battalion CRPF; Balwinder Singh, Second-in-Command of the 15th Battalion ITBP; Vikas Mahajan, Deputy Central Intelligence Officer of IB; Captain Vivek Bharti of the 4/3 Gorkha Rifles; Pankaj Soodan, Deputy Superintendent of Traffic Police Udhampur; Manvi Gupta, Sub-Divisional Police Officer for Railways Udhampur; Pardeep Gupta, Deputy Superintendent of CID CI Udhampur; Kewal Gupta, Deputy Superintendent of CID (SB) Udhampur; and Masoof Ahmed from SDRF Civil Defense.
During the session, the Senior Superintendent of Police Udhampur gave a detailed presentation outlining the security arrangements, surveillance measures, convoy management, Quick Reaction Team deployment, and emergency response plans designed specifically for the pilgrimage.Addressing the assembled officers, the Deputy Inspector General stressed the need for maximum alertness, strict adherence to security protocols, and pilgrim-friendly conduct throughout the duration of the yatra.
The Senior Superintendent of Police Udhampur was advised to strengthen existing security arrangements through regular inspections of community kitchens, lodgement centers, and other transit facilities, while maintaining close surveillance over suspicious movements and anti-national elements. The officers present were further instructed to intensify intelligence generation, promptly share actionable inputs, and maintain close coordination with intelligence agencies and other stakeholders to ensure a robust and proactive security grid.
The Deputy Inspector General also emphasized the importance of strengthening surveillance and response capabilities by intensifying drone-based monitoring, deploying dog squads for anti-sabotage checks at vital installations and key transit locations, and ensuring the absolute operational readiness of Quick Reaction Teams. He highlighted the need for seamless inter-agency coordination among the Police, Central Armed Police Forces, Civil Administration, Traffic Police, Health Services, and other departments to facilitate prompt information sharing and joint preparedness.
Project Director Anuj Kumar Singh was specifically advised to ensure the proper upkeep of the National Highway and to keep adequate men, machinery, and emergency restoration equipment strategically positioned at vulnerable locations for prompt traffic restoration in case of landslides or other disruptions.
Special emphasis was laid on securing the National Highway and pilgrimage routes through round-the-clock domination, checkpoint inspections, and area patrols. Additionally, officers were directed to ensure the effective management of mini-convoys, expedite tenant verification and census drives, and enhance CCTV coverage with dedicated 24/7 monitoring at all important locations to ensure a safe, smooth, and successful pilgrimage.
