New Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Krishna Swaminathan takes charge

NEW DELHI, May 31, 2026 — Admiral Krishna Swaminathan officially assumed charge as the 27th Chief of the Naval Staff of the Indian Navy on Sunday. He takes command at a time when maritime security and strategic dominance in the Indian Ocean Region remain critical priorities for the nation’s defense establishment.

Speaking immediately after taking over leadership of the maritime force, Admiral Swaminathan stated that the Indian Navy remains highly vigilant in safeguarding national interests.

He emphasized that naval forces are actively deployed across a regional security environment that continues to be challenging, complex, unpredictable, and uncertain, reaffirming the navy’s readiness to counter any maritime threats.
