Home Minister Amit Shah arrives in Jammu to assess flood aftermath, chairs high-level review

Jammu 31 August :- Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Jammu on Sunday evening on a dedicated visit to conduct a first-hand assessment of the widespread devastation caused by recent cloudbursts and flash floods across the region.

Upon his arrival at the Jammu Airport, the Home Minister was received by a delegation of top officials, including Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Member of Parliament Jugal Kishor Sharma, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, LOP Sunil Sharma.

Following his reception, Shah proceeded to the Raj Bhawan, where he is scheduled to chair a crucial high-level meeting on Monday to comprehensively review the ongoing relief and rehabilitation measures.

As part of his itinerary, the Home Minister is also expected to conduct an aerial survey of the worst-affected areas, particularly focusing on the tragedy-struck town of Katra—where a landslide on the old Mata Vaishno Devi shrine route claimed 34 pilgrim lives and injured 20 others on August 26—and the cloudburst-ravaged Chisoti village in the Kishtwar district.

Emphasizing the singular purpose of the visit, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had earlier clarified that the Home Minister’s agenda is solely focused on evaluating the crisis and understanding the region’s requirements for central assistance, explicitly stating that the visit is not intended for a routine review of security or development projects.
