Sopore Police Apprehend Three Suspects and Seize Contraband in Major Anti-Drug Drive
SOPORE, May 4 — Sopore Police achieved significant success today in their ongoing efforts to combat substance abuse under the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyaan.
In two separate enforcement actions, authorities apprehended three individuals and recovered a variety of contraband and psychotropic substances.
These operations are part of a broader district-wide initiative aimed at dismantling local drug trafficking networks and promoting a healthier, drug-free community.
In the first operation, a police team from the Bomai station conducted a surprise check on Chetkak Road in Tujjar Shareef. During the exercise, they intercepted a motorcycle and discovered a bag containing a quantity of psychotropic capsules.
The rider, identified as Danish Akbar Bhat, was immediately taken into custody. Following the recovery, a formal case was registered under the NDPS Act at the Bomai Police Station, and a detailed investigation into the source of the substances is currently underway.
In a separate action at Hadipora, officers signaled a vehicle traveling toward Watergam to stop for inspection. The driver attempted to evade the checkpoint but was quickly intercepted by the police party.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a substance suspected to be charas. The two occupants, identified as Iqbal Majeed and Abdul Qayoom Dar, both residents of Hadipora, were arrested on the spot. Legal proceedings have been initiated at the Dangiwacha Police Station to address the violation.
Sopore Police have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a strict stance against drug peddlers and traffickers across the region.
Authorities emphasized that these enforcement drives will continue without exception to ensure the safety of the public.
By intensifying patrolling and checkpoint operations, the administration aims to eliminate the drug menace and provide a more secure environment for the residents of Jammu and Kashmir.
