Indian Army Concludes Mega Eye Camp Operation Netra 1.0 in Leh
LEH, April 30, 2026 — Operation Netra 1.0, a significant healthcare initiative under Operation Sadbhavana, successfully concluded today at the Army General Hospital in Leh. Over the course of the five-day program which began on April 26, more than 200 cataract patients residing in the remote border villages of Ladakh underwent successful surgeries to restore their vision.
This mission is part of a broader commitment to regional health, following a series of army-led eye camps held over the past three months in Tangste, Chushul, Nyoma, the Nubra Valley, and Kargil, which provided essential eye care services to over 950 community members.
Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena attended the closing ceremony held at Rinchen Auditorium, where he expressed sincere gratitude to the Indian Army for their dedicated service to the people of Ladakh.
Northern Command Army Commander Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma extended his thanks to the specialized team of ophthalmologists from the Army Hospital Research and Referral in Delhi, led by Brigadier Sanjay Kumar Mishra, as well as the staff at SNM Hospital in Leh for their collaborative efforts.
While Operation Netra 1.0 has officially ended, military officials affirmed that the initiative’s success in improving the quality of life for residents marks the start of ongoing efforts to provide specialized medical assistance to the region’s underserved populations.
