NDRF Conducts Vital Disaster Management Training and Awareness Drill at GDC Billawar
KATHUA, April 10, 2026 — To bolster emergency preparedness and community resilience, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) conducted a comprehensive Disaster Management Awareness and Training Programme at Government Degree College (GDC) Billawar today.
Organized by the college’s IQAC, Activity Club, NSS, and NCC units under the patronage of Principal Dr. Alka Sharma, the event featured a 30-member specialized team led by Deputy Commandant Parveen Singh.
The initiative aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical life-saving actions, drawing significant engagement from students, faculty, and non-teaching staff who gathered to learn the nuances of crisis intervention.
During the session, Deputy Commandant Singh provided a deep dive into the NDRF’s operational framework, emphasizing the critical role of immediate civilian response during the “golden hour” of a disaster.
The programme was highlighted by high-impact live demonstrations, where experts showcased how to manage diverse emergencies including earthquakes, fire outbreaks, floods, and road accidents using simple, everyday household items.
These practical simulations transitioned into a hands-on workshop, allowing participants to personally practice rescue techniques and first-aid maneuvers under professional supervision.
By equipping the college community with these essential skills, the programme successfully fostered a culture of safety and proactive readiness against unforeseen calamities.
